A short account of finding the joy of Easter
The joy of Easter, for me, is related to the love of Easter. Strangely, I found that love through battling anxiety in my 50’s.
As usual, with health issues, I turned to natural solutions for the anxiety, and was delighted to find there were many healthy remedies that helped me cope with it.
However, none of the natural remedies I’d buy at the natural food stores worked all the time. And only some of the healthy practices I’d found online worked, sometimes.
Peace
Of course, I prayed as well. And eventually, I noticed that the one thing that worked best, the most often, was just good old, earnest, pleading prayer.
In the midst of a particularly severe bout of anxiety, I was driving to work. I begged God to take away the anxiety. And instantly it was gone. That had never happened with the herbs or other natural remedies. Each time I remembered to pray, I’d either get instantaneous relief, or very soon after.
And the peace that came was complete relief, lasting a long time.
But, then the anxiety would return eventually. So, why not permanent relief? I’m not 100% sure, but here are some thoughts :
Changes
I did realize over time that drastically reducing my sugar/sweeteners intake made a huge difference in reducing my anxiety. And getting plenty of sleep is another major factor. Those realizations led to healthy lifestyle changes!
Also, from a spiritual perspective, I’ve become convinced over the years that we all do best when we are frequently in contact with God, rather than just once-a-year “foxhole prayers” in an emergency.
It’s for our own benefit that we need to continuously talk to and pray to God. And God knows that, so he reminds us.
And as a result of all he did for me, relieving the anxiety, I felt his love for me.
This photo shows my favorite way to walk and talk with God. And following the photo is a beautiful, colorful music video by the Asidors about walking with God!
Here are lyrics to the chorus of the song below, one of my favorites…
And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
I hope this is a blessing to you,
Happy Easter!
