To all the Veterans that have served this country, thank you immensely for your service.
And to all the creative, kind organizations that support our veterans, I want to give you all a shout out!
Here are only 2 that I have learned about in the last few months. There must be hundreds more–I hope so.
Return to Base
Some very close friends of mine are involved in this organization, and from what I’ve seen and heard, it is accomplishing its mission. They have a beautiful property!
Veteran Project INC is a veteran-founded nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans and their families transition from military to civilian life through therapeutic recreation, resource support, and community connection.
As their website says, “Return To Base is a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit built by veterans for veterans. We understand the weight of transition.. because we’ve lived it. That’s why we create mission-aligned programs rooted in…
Reintegration through recreation
Supporting mental health through camaraderie
Growth through purpose and
community
Whether you’re coming home from combat or simply searching for your next chapter—you belong here.”
Honor Flight
At a festival this past summer, I saw a man wearing a tee-shirt with these words on it, and asked about it.
Honor Flight of the Appalachian Highlands helps our Veterans visit Washington DC, at no cost to the Veteran. Their mission is to transport America’s Veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our GREAT country.
Honor Flight is a national network of independent hubs working together to pay tribute to our nation’s veterans with an allexpense paid trip to Washington, D.C. via charter bus, a trip many of our veterans may not otherwise be able to take.
Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the chance to share this moment with other veterans. Each veteran may bring one guardian to share in this experience. The guardians are asked to make a donation. Our goal is to ensure that no veteran ever has to pay.
A Prayer for our Veterans
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, recognizing the immense sacrifices made by our veterans. Like soldiers of faith, they wore armor, not for glory but for the love of their country and fellow man. Today, we pray not only for their well-being but for their legacy and honor to be recognized by all.
Lord, let their valor and virtue shine brightly, like beacons of hope for future generations. Engrave their deeds on the hearts of our nation, so their sacrifices are never forgotten. Just as Your son, Jesus, laid down His life for many, let us remember those who laid down their lives for the freedom of others.
Grant them peace and grant us the wisdom to honor them, not just in word but in action. May their legacy inspire us to live lives of courage, integrity, and unconditional love.
In Your holy name, we pray,
Amen.
