How About some Light Reading?

Recently a friend asked me if I had any feel-good fiction I could recommend, and after giving her my list, I thought I’d also post it here.

I also recommended quite a few books that I have already mentioned here , have a look!

All of these books are TRULY light reading, fun and relaxing. Some are excellent in their quality of writing. This list includes humorous, inspirational, Christian, historic, and mystery fiction books.

Here we go:

Cracking the code by Emily Thomas
A fun book because the history is very well researched, and there are various mysteries to be solved, starting with the envelope full of several thousand dollars of cash found on the porch. It’s in the series called “Secrets of the Blue Hill Library” written by a group of people called Emily Thomas (this book was written by Kelly Ann Riley), quite an original approach to a series!

Chapter and Verse by Carole Jefferson
This is part of the Mysteries of Silver Peak series (set in Colorado) and I really enjoyed it. “Our intrepid heroine Sadie just can’t pass by a young woman she sees walking along a country road…in the classroom, Sadie helps her daughter to find out who is leaving anonymous installments of a delightful little story on a classroom computer…antique trunk with a handwritten poem signed Charlotte Bronte”. I couldn’t pass up that last intriguing mystery!

The Cul-de-Sac War by Melissa Ferguson
At first I thought this was going to be a cliched romantic comedy of two people being mad at each other all the time. But I’m glad I read all of it because it got better and better as the book went on. Quite entertaining and interesting! One reason I picked it up is because this author lives nearby in Bristol, Tennessee and the writing depicts the warm, cozy feel of this area.

Love’s Fortress by Jennifer Uhlarik
What a nice surprise! I bought this from the $1 shelf at MarDel and had low expectations because it was so inexpensive. But it was gripping! Part is contemporary, part is historic which is well researched and so well written, I felt I almost knew the characters personally. There were some totally unexpected– but believable–surprises in how all was resolved in the end. Well done!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the original short story by James Thurber.
If you haven’t read it yet, it’s so worth it!

The Cat Who came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory
I know it’s not the season for Christmas books, but some consider it the best Christmas fiction book ever written, so you might not be able to find it at Christmas time! I absolutely, absolutely loved this book.

I hope that gives you some pleasant reading experiences, and some new authors to check out!
