Valentines Day Blind Date with a Book

A few weeks ago, I stopped by my local library and found the librarian surrounded by 30+ books covered in brown paper. I asked what was going on, and she explained their February holiday feature.

Then she asked, “Are you interested? You’ll be the first one!

Well, who wouldn’t be intrigued by mystery, fun, potential romance, and being the first patron to go on a blind date with a book? I couldn’t resist.

My blind date

Based on the information on the front of each book, I chose this one as a likely candidate for a successful blind date:

To keep from ruining the surprise, I couldn’t read my “receipt”, which revealed the name of the book. I waited until I got home, trying to guess who the author was, and then unwrapped it.

The sun rises in a pinkish-blue spring sky over the Beaufort River as I exit the old drawbridge and turn left onto Bay Street. My rusty red ’68 Mustang jerks and shimmies, threatening to quit on me–again–while from the radio, Tim McGraw sings when the stars go blue.

Pickup line of my “blind date”

Inside, I found these bookmarks for “rating my date” :

Well…???

I am thoroughly enjoying my blind date, and it is a good match. There is a spark! I can see this author on my “To Be Read” list in the future!

I will post a review of the “date” soon.

Now it’s YOUR turn…

Have you ever been on a blind date….with a book?

What kind of book did you–or would you–choose, with no cover illustration to go by: mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, romance, historical fiction, humor?

What is your favorite first line in a book? (Hold that thought for the next post!)

By the way, an interesting historic side…

This is my local library, the Unicoi County Public Library, occupying the former Clinchfield Railroad Depot. Pretty amazing!

It was operational until the 1950s, when the following photo was taken. Notice the date, 1925, above the arched windows!
