He is Risen…

…He is risen indeed!

This is the traditional celebration, greeting and response for this sacred day.  It is Easter, the most important holiday in the Christian calendar. By God’s grace, his Son died in place of us, and offers the free gift of eternal life, through faith in Jesus.

I watched the video “The Passion of the Christ” for the first time today. I should clarify that I scanned the movie, having heard that is was quite violent, yet was deeply moved by what I believe is its strong message. As Christ suffered during his last 24 hours before crucifixion, we see flashbacks, significant moments which explain how he will die, and why he is willing to suffer: “Love so Amazing, so Divine*”. This is the whole message of the Christian faith.

(*This phrase comes from the Isaac Watts song “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”:  “…Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were a present far too small; love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.”  The great hymn writer Charles Wesley reportedly said he would give up all his other hymns to have written this one.)

Two weeks ago the following video was shown at my church, and it moved me so much had to share it.  I started out laughing at this hilarious Peter with the East-coast accent, and ended up teary at the revelation of how full of grace our Savior is toward our human-ness.
